Genticorum (trad French Canadian) music here in Bozeman

  1. Genticorm a young trio from Montreal played in a Bozeman Folklore Society concert last night, Tuesday, Feb. 1 at our 100-year-old Ellen Theatre downtown. It was built initially as an opera house. It has had opera, vaudeville, and many live events, until it then became a movie theater. The cinema company left, favoring the more profitable mult-plex, so The Ellen was left abandoned for a few years, until a non-profit theater company opened it up. Now they present theatrical and musical live events. This was the first I have set out to do with our Bozeman Folklore Society Concert Series. Thankfully, we got over 150 people to attend, so we did NOT lose money! (I was a bit nervous to say the least!)

I think we will go back to The Ellen on Saturday. Frank Ferrante will be doing his solo "Evening With Groucho" presentation, which will be preceded by an all-afternoon matinnee-- free screenings of 2 or 3 Marx Brothers films. Wish you guys could come and cut up. (Thinking of who was it in high school? Jim Howard that we used to call "Groucho" when he tried to be the clever class clown, but we thought him not so funny? I remember us having a good time holding our fingers up to our mouths and asking him, "Waht's up, Groucho?" or some such thing.)

Anyhow, Genticorum really did us a great night last night. While the revolution was raging across the world in Egypt, we had some good French Quebecois traditiaonal music to keep us laughing and entertained. Their introductions to the songs were quite inventive and silly. I think they would have liked Groucho. There are several You Tube videos of live performances. In fact, last night, at our show at the Ellen a man came up from Colorado and filmed the entire show, wiich they say will be cut up for some future You Tube posts. This will be cool. I hope it happens.
